When considering the lack of attention paid to this concert documentary, it seems a shame that so few official releases have emerged. To be honest each of the four concerts are glorious, and worth playing loud on your Hi-Fi or listening to on headphones. Perhaps the band were performing extra hard because of the cameras but there was a magic this night, proven by the fact that eight songs would feature in the film. Elvis' voice sounds very tinny and far off at the start of the track and then about half way through, his voice is brought back to normal.

The all-new Elvis On Tour is a 6 CD + 1 Blu-ray box set comprised of the audio from four of the shows (and two rehearsals) that were part of Elvis’ 1972 North American tour! Only the second time that he had performed it live and the crowd must have been stunned as they would have never heard this classic before – amazingly it wasn’t to be released for another 4 months. A quote from the film reveals how deliberate the song selection was: "I start going through the list of songs and it must be 400 or 500 songs. The massive audience reaction again gives you an indication of the physical action Elvis was putting into the song - as can be seen in the film.RCA and Legacy Recordings have released the first Elvis on Tour soundtrack as a 6-CD/1-Blu-ray package (with the 2010 edit of the film, as previously released by Warner Home Entertainment, on the Blu-ray). The photos, most of which come from the MGM archive, all look fairly familiar although some neat shots from San Antonio (pg6 +25) and Jacksonville (both fold-out cover pics) do appear to be new to my collection.

The concept of the film was changed to show Presley as he toured arenas throughout the United States. I'd love it if it were like the 1970 TTWII set but would love it even more if it was more like the 1969 set. Similarly it is unbelievable that the book doesn’t state which song from each concert - and rehearsal - were included in the final film. The reason why we haven’t put out anything on either FTD or RCA at this time is that we would ideally like to do it with them.

There’s the highlight of ”This song is a favourite of mine” and the rarely performed ‘It's Over' (the only time Elvis performed it in the tour) . This is mostly unreleased, although some were issued on a couple of the specialist ‘Follow That Dream’ releases in 2001 and 2004 ( Elvis On Tour – The Rehearsals and Sunset Boulevard, respectively). One has to wonder why Elvis would drop this absolute stunner from his ‘Madison Square Garden’ set just 2 months later. Parker opposed references to Presley's early career, as he felt it would portray the singer as a "nostalgia act".
