The first song Confessional is a powerful song about Janet's struggles in life and and she is so honest about her struggles in almost every song. Janet Devlin Opens up on Her Upcoming Album, "Confessional": "I Just Wanted to Finally Disclose the Real Version of Myself to Everyone" ". Sweet sacred friend is a dreamy, imaginative affair; beginning with an almost fairytale-like opening; a lamenting flute, gliding harp and lucious vocals; before fusing with a reggaeton like beat and transforming into a highly infectious groove that is impossible not to move to. This sets the tone for an album that does not shy away; or attempt to dilute some of the darkest, most vulnerable moments in life; this album faces these uncomfortable periods head on, with unrelenting ferociousness.

Arriving six years after her second album ( Running with Scissors), the record is a balanced fusion of Irish folk melodies, brooding anti-ballads and soaring melodies that embody the record’s introspective reflection on her true life story. There is loads of strong melodies, vivacious instrumentation and excellent vocal work to be enjoyed here. Now aged 25, Janet is about to release her extremely personal third album that has been four years in the making. Janet’s voice enters like an icy gale; gliding over the deep bass tones, before being joined by thundering percussion at the halfway mark.

The biggest selling point of this record however is in how it incorporates traditional Irish folk instrumentation. This deals with a first kiss that turns into a deeply sour affair; due the boy involved giving a rather nasty depiction of events to everyone at her school, and the isolation and shame that came with that.Ken went on to work with some of the biggest names in rock including The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck, Donovan and David . We open with Confessional; a pounding, tribal Celtic affair; bringing to mind a raucous tavern scene from Brave or Lord of the Rings; making you want to stamp your feet and rise from your seat in alliance; Confessional is a resounding and brave battle cry of what is to come, and what will be faced.

Confessional’, a darkly defiant folk-tinged anthem, showcases her enchanting vocal style and alludes to her Irish heritage. Here lyeth my confessional of the sins I want so much to be free from - and to finally forgive myself for. Especially ‘Sweet Sacred Friend’ and ‘Holy Water’ are both lighter in spirit, upbeat, insanely catchy and drenched in Irish folk instrumentation. Likewise Confessional is released alongside Janet’s autobiography, which further explores her story and the deeper meanings behind each track.
