Description

I felt the chapters on mental illness and affective neuroscience in general were frustratingly short but I suppose that's because I have an unusual fascination with those topics. Herbert Ballou University Professor of Neuroscience and a Professor of Medical Science at Brown University and the Alpert Medical School. D. in physiology and pharmacology from Duke University in 1979, and then pursued postdoctoral training with David Prince and Stephen Waxman at the Stanford University School of Medicine. The new Fourth Edition has been fully updated to reflect these and other rapid advances in the field, while honoring its commitment to be student-friendly with striking new illustrations, additional animations, and an unparalleled array of online resources. In addition, readers will be able to assess their knowledge of neuroanatomy with the Illustrated Guide to Human Neuroanatomy, which includes a perforated self-testing workbook.

I was actually surprised and disappointed when the book suddenly ended with so many questions left unanswered -- but I guess that's how science goes. Although I hadn't thoroughly read through other textbooks for a fair comparison, I found the short stories and 'paths to discovery' to be exciting and inspiring, and they were sprinkled all throughout the textbook. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. In just a few years, the field of neuroscience has been transformed by exciting new technologies and an explosion of knowledge about the brain.

It is better for learning about behavioural experiments, gross neuroanatomy (regions not cell types) and fancy diagrams. Overall, the book is completely amazing and I just can’t understand how could this book be ever rated by 1 or 2 stars! However, I don’t recommend it for postgraduate studies because it, to a limited extent, lacks some basic and crucial details.

This book lacks fine detail, especially with respect to electrophysiology, computational approaches and molecular neuroscience.

He has been at the forefront of the efforts to translate knowledge of autism pathophysiology into new treatments.I recommend this for anyone who wants to see the very basic connections between neuronal function and behavior. Fox and Dorothea Doctors Fox Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science and Professor of Neuroscience at Brown University. The human genome has been sequenced, sophisticated new methods have been developed for genetic engineering, and new methods have been introduced to enable visualization and stimulation of specific types of nerve cells and connections in the brain. He made fundamental discoveries on bidirectional synaptic plasticity, metaplasticity, the molecular basis of amblyopia (a cause of visual disability in children), and the pathophysiology of fragile X syndrome (the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability and autism).
