Never had a problem with it at 40:1 and it doesn't gum up the carb if you don't drain it if it's stood for a while. A castor based lubricant which is primarily designed for the racing world; however its unique properties can also benefit private owners interested in high performance. No issues that could be related to choice of oil, but when I tried Maxima is wasn't as easy to get hold of as it is now. caused by internal bleeding quite far up the plumbing and, at worst, could very well be a sign of cancer.

Only in 1953 was Castrol R superseded by R20, again containing castor oil but this time mixed w,ith a semi-synthetic, and the successes began all over again. Next year I'll strip her down again to see what condition the engine components are in after having run her exclusively on R30/40. Talking of Isle of Man I heard of an expat that would sit down in front of his big screen TV every year and get a few bears and pour Castrol R in his wife's Diffuser. A high performance castor based engine oil with distinctive Castrol 'R' aroma suitable for 4 stroke engines. What I would like to know is if anyone has added it to their petrol without any problems and if so what ratio they used, thanks, Joe.Castrol R 40 SAE 40 4Stroke Racing Engine Oil is a castor base motorcycle oil for classic or racing application. Drain the oil if you are going to leave it standing for a period and replace when you are ready to roll again.

We used to run our Triumph 750 race outfit on the stuff and you're right, it could turn to jelly very quickly even used how it was designed to be. In hydrodynamic bearings, like crankshaft bearings, where a relatively thick layer of oil is established, this offers no benefits. I used to race a TV 200 with a GP200 engine (home-tuned cast iron barrel) in the cutdown class and the engine ran brilliantly. Now I don't really know what the gooey stuff was but I have a very good idea and as you can imagine, certainly didn't want them to do an analysis. The same system could also inject water into the inlets, for two purposes, preventing detonation and so allowing higher compression, and also cleaning the cylinder head.

So, obviously I've got my own tried and tested version of Castrol R use and I love some polemics and a bit of controversy. It is curious that we understand much better than its inventors the way Castrol R works, yet take it for granted.
