Each character is introduced and then we learn more and more about them from their fellow villagers and from their own actions and statements. A sa grande surprise, le livre est publié - mais très vite les villageois s'indignent et s'interrogent sur l'identité de l'auteur.

Those of us who work in publishing might seriously question the sanity of anyone trying to escape poverty by writing a novel, but hey, it works for Miss Buncle. no, they weren't all lovable, but most were) The story was fairly fast and the switch between Silversteam and Copperfield was refreshing. Stevenson retrata muy bien la cotidianidad de la vida rural, la tranquilidad que proyecta es sumamente deliciosa y enriquecedora.

Of course, the book is accepted and published and when it comes out, her nasty neighbors are not amused and want the anonymous author's head on a platter. The book is original, charming and lovely - it is heart-warming and totally hilarious at the same time with superb characterisation that comes close to that of Jane Austen and I cannot give a higher praise than that. Some of Miss Buncle's word association that I so liked and that was probably what made people start paying attention.

Watch as Barbara Buncle blossoms and finds within herself the strength that's always been there, just waiting for its chance. But it's not too sweet--there is enough sharply observant social satire to keep the reader wide awake and enough plot twists so that I was loathe to stop reading even in the midst of a glorious holiday weekend. She was meticulously truthful in all she said (it was almost as if she were on oath to speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth all day long and every day of the week). I found myself chuckling at the way people reacted to the book and the ways they tried to plot and plan to expose the author. Barbara then has the inspired notion of adding a Pied Piper figure who, midway through her book, turns the village and its inhabitants upside down.

She doesn’t need to invent a thing, although she does produce a pied piper who gets some of her neighbours moving! If you are looking for a fun , light read that hits that sweet spot in your heart, then this is the book!

Manquant d'imagination, elle s'inspire de son village et de ses habitants, dressant d'eux des portraits sans concession.

But the seriousness is minimal – mostly this is an entirely light-hearted, easy read, one of those books like Mariana, Miss Pettigrew, The Making of a Marchioness and Greenery Street which can be recommended unreservedly to anyone looking for something undemanding, fun and absorbing that is also well-written and intelligent.

There are times when you feel like you're just strolling through the village and then there are times you feel you have just run the length of the village twice without stopping. The endless play on mirrors and reflections between the characters in both iterations is hilarious and ever so entertaining. There is a small tear at the top edge of the spine, some crinkling at both spine ends, some rubbing at the corners, bit of rub-through at the rear two, a couple of stains and scratches.

Perhaps part of the attraction is that in DE Stevenson’s novels these rules comfortingly still apply. It was all about loving your neighbour, and how you must seek out the good in people and only see the good. Miss Buncle is a bit of a Wise Fool, so of course she has written about what she knows: all the people in the village. Miss Buncle's quiet little English village of Silverstream is therefor turned into the village of Cooperfield and the residents of Silverstream become thinly veiled characters in Miss Buncle's book, Disturber of the Peace. There are a lot of characters and the book within a book idea could have gotten messy and confusing but it thankfully didn't.
