Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. The artwork is by far and away the biggest asset to this book, it straddled the line between infographic and illustrative style in just the right way, and every page was full of fun characters and objects to make this a really visually engaging read. His first Nobrow title 'An Illustrated History of Filmmaking' has received high praise and has been translated into over five languages.

It looks beautiful as a ‘coffee table book’, the illustrations and fun and it’s definitely something for paranormal enthusiasts. An Illustrated History of Ghosts provides a great overview of all things relating to ghosts from ghost catching, to haunted locations, to the pranksters themselves. What stops this from being a perfect book is that it skips from ghost to ghost with a very quick pace. His gorgeous graphic illustrations of which there are many, make his guide to the afterlife fun like no other.

The illustrations are beautiful, very soft and inviting, allowing you to concentrate on the facts whilst providing good context for the information. I didn't check it properly, so I didn't realise this was for kids and therefore is less scary than I would have liked. It would have been even better if this could have been utilised for some stories to be more of a comic/graphic novel format. I’ve shared a couple of pages in the slides to illustrate that; I found a lot of the historical parts about how different cultures approach the concept of ghosts really interesting, but as a noted pop culture fiend, I particularly enjoyed all the mentions of ghost related books and films a lot too! If you already know your stuff then you might not get too much out of this, but it still makes a nice book to have on the shelf and loan to guests. This reads more as an introductory guide and would be suitable for younger readers although it is classed as adult fiction. Following his degree, Adam served a year as the Students' Union President whilst simultaneously working as a freelance illustrator. Whether you are a ghost fanatic or simply piqued by curiosity, you’ll get a robust deep dive into the experiences of paranormal occurrences, alternative explanations for these occurrences, and our culture’s fascination with them. The author, Adam Allsuch Boardman is an illustrator and fan of trivia who has previously written “An Illustrated History of UFO’s”, and “An Illustrated History of Filmmaking”, both of which I’d be interested in having a look at.

I jumped at the chance when I saw this on NetGalley as I love anything paranormal but unfortunately it wasn’t what I expected. The prose could have been a little more professionally written with smoother transitions and better care taken to juggle reader interest and information. Adam Allsuch Boardman has explored the world of ghosts in this volume in a visual and anecdotal manner that I don't think I've seen. I guess I just read too many magic books as a kid and am used to the "A good magician never reveals his secrets" stick. An Illustrated History of Ghosts is a cute little book which was a surface and light read about the history of ghosts. The pre-loved books are carefully cleaned and maintained offering a wide variety of general and specialist titles from children's to adults.

Although it gives serviceable descriptions of the content, it really just wets your lips before jumping to the next cool thing. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). It never really dived into any of the stories/techniques/technology it was telling us about, so we only get a surface level of everything. A quickfire tour through the history of ghosts throughout history and different cultures, myths and legend, right through to modern 19th-21st century experiences and their use in pop culture. It's weird that it doesn't work properly on the kindle app as I can read graphic novels on there no problem but this just didn't work at all. I also appreciated Boardman’s inclusivity in his accounts of the religious meanings of spirits, hoaxes, and other topics.
