Description

He crossed the road, but caused a big accident and then at the end he crossed the road by the lollipop lady and crossed safely. Still determined to get safely across the road, he continues on his adventures until eventually he reaches the park. Born in Gloucestershire in 1922, Dick King-Smith grew up surrounded by pets and knew from a young age that he wanted to be a farmer. Max considers the problem for a while and decides that the best thing to do is run across the road as quick as he can before any more traffic comes.

The Hodgeheg is an enduring classic perfect for animal-loving children, while also providing an accessible and engaging story for children just beginning to branch out in their reading – great to read alone or read aloud with parents!

Max didn't get discouraged by the failure of his attemps but kept trying to find a way for his loved ones to cross the road safely.

The main problem to the adult mind is the idea of hedgehogs trying to figure out a road safety plan.A detailed lesson plan, a slideshow for the teaching input, and differentiated worksheets are all included in this Features of a Non-chronological Report KS1 English planning pack!

For it was the young, adventurous and bright Max who set out on his adventures to discover a safe way for hedgehogs to cross the road safely. Dick even presented and starred in several television shows during the '80's and '90's with his Dachshund sidekick Dodo. This six-lesson non-chronological reports year 2 planning pack provides everything you need to deliver these fun and engaging lessons, including a detailed lesson plan, slideshows for the teaching inputs, differentiated activities, and a range of printable teaching resources. Many of his stories are inspired by his farming experiences, the children he taught, his large family and numerous pets. His first attempt ends in a nasty bump on the head, and Max finds when he tries to speak his words are all mixed up.I personally enjoyed the book a lot and would strongly recommend it to children to read at least once during their childhood. This book would be very useful for teaching children about road safety in a PSHE or citizenship lesson. The story begins with PA Hedgehog explaining to his children about the problems that hedgehogs have in crossing the road to get to the park. Your Year 2 children will then be guided through how to extract information from the text, considering what in the story is factual and what is fiction.
