Description

The worst parts involve ridiculous theories about the universe's origins, strange interpretations for chemical interactions and how they fit in with made-up conceptual models like the 'Octaves', 'Law of three', 'energy transformation', and other not-very-useful conceptual theories.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. He had not found the answers he was looking for, but his curiosity was sparked upon meeting the enigmatic Gurdjieff, who seemed to be brimming with ancient wisdom.

This book is a good introduction to Gurdjieff's teachings, presented in a clear and understandable way by the author, who was a student of Gurdjieff himself from 1915 to 1924. But despite these traits, when her father was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she traveled from Rhode Island to El Santuario de Chimayo in New Mexico, accompanied by her newborn daugher, believing she could discover a miracle to save him. All the attributes of man—freedom, understanding, love, creativity—are not his until he works for them. For all the vastness and complexity of the material based upon these laws, however, it soon becomes clear that the most essential issue to be understood is the relationship of these laws to the nearly insoluble difficulty in which man finds himself—his prison of lies, fears, and self-deception, his state of sleep, and the need for him to begin the long and difficult work of awakening to himself and of developing in himself the powers and functions which are proper to man, the “crown of creation. Instead, Gurdjieff presents a "Fourth Way", which strives to develop each of these centers in harmony.Or has he brought Ouspensky to a stage of inner development which can only proceed further through the creation in the pupil of an entirely new and unknown human emotion? At the age of 16, he was expelled from school for painting graffiti on the wall in plain sight of a visiting inspector.

John Seetoo talks with musician/lawyer Alan Chapell, who has a singular perspective on the music business. Great care is taken throughout the book to characterize the master-pupil relationship between Gurdjieff and his circle. We have guest articles from AAA, FIDELITY and PMA magazines on Walter Stutz and a remarkable ReVox and Studer museum, the Audio Video Show Warsaw, and some classic vinyl recordings. Another reader referred me to this as his recommended second reading of Ouspensky, saying it was his favorite.

The third one is explained by Ouspensky in his tract on Conscience: it is the non-expression of negative emotions. and having been drawn by them into spending years in a Gurdjieff "school," and being familiar with the traditions on which the Gurdjieff approach was based, I take a lot of the "fourth way" material with a large grain of salt.
