On the album, the band segues immediately from "Cowboy Song" into "The Boys Are Back in Town", on the line "a cowboy's life is the life for me" – the last chord of the former was the first of the latter, although their studio versions were recorded as separate songs. Visconti later said the performance of "Southbound" came from a soundcheck before one of the Philadelphia gigs, with the audience reaction dubbed from another song. In 2023 we get unprecedented access to the legendary Lynott-Downey-Gorham-Robertson line-up in full flight, opening their sets with show-stoppers ( Jailbreak and Emerald often in the first three), delivering favourites Still In Love With You and The Boys Are Back In Town before halfway, and climaxing with songs they hadn’t yet released: Baby Drives Me Crazy, Me And The Boys. These six shows from London, Toronto and Philadelphia have been newly mixed by Ben Findlay from the original multi-tracks and mastered by Andy Pearce, overseen by legendary Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham. Naturally, the box set invites us to compare the various different versions of these long-familiar songs.Here was a band so photogenic they could have helmed Paris Fashion Week, should its ’70s purview have alighted on hard rock couture.

Thin Lizzy’s double platinum-selling Live And Dangerous, which was recorded in London and Philadelphia in 1977 during the Johnny the Fox and Bad Reputation tours.

As well as the full album, remastered by Andy Pearce and Matt Wortham, it featured two additional tracks from the period that were not originally included on the album (although they were later released on the Killers Live EP in 1981). Working with producer Tony Visconti, Thin Lizzy had had huge success with their previous album Bad Reputation, and the group wanted to work with him again. With the 3 Hammersmith nights from 1976, 2 Philadelphia shows from 1977, the Toronto show from 1977 and the Rainbow theatre show from 1978, there’s a lot to listen to. Still In Love With You, penned by Lynott about old flame Gail Barber, comes across like his nightly confessional and catharsis, a soulful, all-too-human meditation on regret.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. These three shows feature the classic Phil Lynott, Brian Robertson, Scott Gorham and Brian Downey at the their rawest.

It was also the last Thin Lizzy album to feature guitarist Brian Robertson, [a] who left the band shortly after its release. The booklet is packed with rare photos / memorabilia and includes sleeve notes by Mojo's Mark Blake. The box set features performances from iconic venues like the Hammersmith Odeon and the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, capturing the band’s raw energy and stage presence. The super deluxe edition of Live And Dangerous finally puts to bed the myth that the album was extensively overdubbed in the studio, proving that Thin Lizzy was one of the best live bands of the 1970s. Compiled (and then overdubbed - so what and who cares anyway) from recordings of Thin Lizzy's 1976 "Johnny The Fox" and 1977 "Bad Reputation" tours "Live and Dangerous" showcases Thin Lizzy when the band was at its all too short peak with the Lynott, Gorham, Robertson and Downey line-up.For this specific sale the CDs sleeve condition refers only to the inner paper insert sleeve, and does not refer to the outer digipak, jewel case or cardboard outer casing.
