Description

Long Way Down is a 2017 novel by Jason Reynolds that follows main character Will Holloman as he struggles to come to terms with his grief and anger in the aftermath of his brother Shawn’s death due to a gang-related shooting.

His subconscious fears come to "life" when he is met by "ghosts" from his past who seek to influence his decision and sway him to reconsider. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. These encounters challenge Will to evaluate his choices and reconsider his actions before he makes a choice he can never change. Long Way Down is a powerful young adult novel that explores violence in the lives of these young black men.His vision of art and writing is to see empathy extended, more and more empathy extended, right across all barriers and boundaries. Buck asks Will his plans, checks to see if the gun is loaded, and tells Will regarding his revenge plan, ''You don't got it in you.

An IMPORTANT book that will let children know this is not true as far as Jason Reynolds is concerned . Ellen Hopkins’ use of verse and poetry is dead and Jason Reynolds killed it, personally, by himself. The award-winning, bestselling verse novel is now a stunning graphic novel with illustrations by Danica Novgorodoff. Will learns how each of the ghosts is connected with the rules, as they express surprise, sadness, skepticism, or regret at Will's plan. But the world don't wanna see no kids, and God ain't no pushy parent so he just folds and snaps us shut. While the prose of these two books are certainly different, I found Long Way Down slightly superior because of the narrative in verse.

The subject was about revenge and how our main character decides either to do what he is having in mind or not. Not saying that I don't appreciate it, I certainly do, but personally, I'm not able to enjoy it to the full extent I should. Books can help teenagers to process sad feelings, especially when they find it hard to talk to adults. Par exemple si je prenais mon commentaire et que je le détachais en vers, ça donnerait pareil et ça n'a pas toujours grand intérêt.

I can picture the faces in my head of the former students I wish were still in my classroom so I could put this book right into their hands. She has a Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, and English from Gordon College and a Master's degree in Special Education from Salem State University. Will knows that if someone does not vindicate their loved one's death, they are considered disloyal, and betray the memory of their loved one.

The man is Buck, a man who used to be like a big brother to Shawn, the man who gave Shawn the gun Will now carries, and a man Will knows to be dead. Because when your non-book-reading kid tells you that you HAVE to read this one right now you put your fluffy romance aside and listen to the boy.TIME added it to their "100 Best YA Books of All Time" list, [23] and Buzzfeed named it one of the best 30 young adult books of the decade. The elevator stops at the second floor, the last stop before the lobby, where this nightmare elevator ride can end. Striking ink-and-watercolour illustrations bring the setting to life, while the comic-book layout adds pace and urgency to the narrative. Things take a strange turn when on each floor, a murdered soul from Will’s past life enters the elevator, each sharing the story of their death.
