Beyond the front cover illustration, the back continues its thematic thread, featuring Kate Bush in flight alongside ominous black vampire bats. On side-A of the original vinyl release label, however, she is depicted as a graceful white swan, abstract concepts that were also featured in the music videos for ‘Delius’ and ‘Babooshka’. A section of the original cover art was enlarged, creating two different booklet covers: the outer one modified; and underneath the original. The dark and gothic "Never For Ever" contains tales of deception, death, longing, and a love of Egypt and violins.

However, as someone has already commented, the older albums do seem to benefit from being remastering better, including this one. Firstly; it had three pretty big hit Singles to its credit - two of which were her best ever in my opinion, and should really have given Kate Bush at least one Number One; 'Babooshka' and 'Breathing'. It features the UK Top 20 singles 'Breathing', 'Army Dreamers' and 'Babooshka', the latter being one of Bush's biggest hits. Bush's dramatics and theatrical approach to singing begin to solidify on Never for Ever, and her style brandishes avid seriousness without sounding flighty or absurd.Evoking an intriguing sense of mysticism and surrealism, various animals emerge underneath her dress, including a yellow-eyed owl, a black crow, and a pair of white doves. According to Bush, the title alluded to conflicting emotions, good and bad, which pass, as she stated: "we must tell our hearts that it is 'never for ever', and be happy that it's like that". Blow Away (for Bill)- another change in direction with a song that makes me feel really good as the vocals are as ever as chanting as ever they could be (a Christmas feel) and another gem.

overall Never For Ever is one of the mst epic albums Kate has done and one of my top 25 favorites, a must for everyone.

Her gothic and even extreme inspirations are intrinsic to her artistry, proving once again that Bush was the true torchbearer of art-rock and experimentalism, using the macabre to go against what was expected of women artists of the era. Though at the time she was younger than 21, Bush confidently became the careful, experimental studio-only artist she remained for the remainder of her career. Violin-continuing with mature sound and with the sythesiser effect on her vocals to create more edge with this song, this shows kate with more of a rocker's edge than any other song she has done. It followed her "Tour of Life" in Europe to promote her previous albums "The Kick Inside" and "Lionheart". Never for Ever is the only studio album by Bush up to Director's Cut (2011) not to have a title track.

Both "Breathing" and "Army Dreamers" went to number 16, while "Babooshka" was her first Top Five single since "Wuthering Heights. Babooshka"'s motherly charm and flexible chorus make it one of her best tracks, proving that she can make the simplest of lyrics work for her through her tailored vocal acrobatics.

Bush was keen to start producing her work and felt that this was the first album she was happy with, since it was more personal. Never For Ever" is another Kate Bush masterpiece that, in hindsight, bridges "Lionheart" and her next album "The Dreaming", containing elements from both. Similarly, ‘The Wedding List’ was influenced by François Truffaut’s 1968 film The Bride Wore Black, a revenge film featuring a widow who murders the man who accidentally shot her husband on her wedding day.

At the same time, however, Bush instated beauty in her explorations, with deeply resonating emotions at the crux of all of her dark endeavours. Never For Ever wa a much more layered and complex album than Lionheart, and took the characterisations and musical arrangements one step further. Not that keen on the Fish people logo (it's better than the earlier version though), but it's muted colour means it doesn't jar with the vinyl itself. It was also the first ever album by a British female solo artist to top the UK album chart, as well as being the first album by any female solo artist to enter the chart at no.
