If you don’t know how to pair your device with any Bluetooth speaker, you’ve probably been living in a cave with no signal for the last 5 years or more. The procedure to pair two speakers (dual sound mode) is equally simple: There are three input ports (AUX input, charging port, and service port for firmware updates). They look exactly the same as the inputs on previous HK Onyx Studio speakers. Tip: The Onyx Studio 5 will turn itself off after 30 minutes if it doesn’t detect a Bluetooth device to pair with. If it is already paired with a device and the device has an auto shut off, then it will disconnect from that device 30 minutes after it shuts off, so you’ll need to pair your device again . Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 5 vs 4 Since then, I have become much more careful around radios, boomboxes, and other audio devices (at least, I like to think so) but I have never lost the passion for audio equipment. Throughout 20 years of my professional career, I’ve been working for various audio equipment manufacturers and even started building speakers on my own in my little workshop. Harman Kardon released the latest Onyx Studio speaker called Onyx Studio 5 at the end of August of 2018. All the previous versions looked pretty much the same (Onyx Studio 1 to 4) but this one is different. HK has finally accepted some customer suggestions and made some changes.

Loa Onyx Studio phục vụ nhu cầu nghe nhạc 8h liên tục, không chai pin. Loại pin Lithium ion 3.635V/3283mAh được sạc đầy trong 5h, sử dụng nguồn sạc pin 19V/2A. After five to ten seconds, the speakers will connect to each other, and the LED will stop blinking light solid white. The design is the standout feature here, it’s like nothing else in the market and has a unique look that’s artistic and also functional. The greatest improvement in comparison to 4 previous Onyx Studio speakers is the carrying handle on the top – it really made the speaker more portable. In terms of other brands, JBL Bluetooth speakers are the nearest equivalent for cost and performance. Models like the Extreme and Boombox tend to have better battery life and IPX7 waterproofing but are more expensive. I believe this only works if you have bought your speaker in the US as of this review, but here’s how you do it (it may vary slightly from device to device): If you are going to carry your speaker around and are into any kind of music that would benefit from some seriously heavy bass, then I’d go for the Studio 5. Model

The battery works as advertised but we have really expected stronger battery. All the Onyx Studio speakers sound great but they all have battery issues. Harman Kardon really needs to start using some stronger batteries. Onyx Studio 5 will deliver 7-8 hours at 40-50% volume but only 3 hours at full volume which is not impressive. Stronger battery, like the one inside JBL Extreme (10,000mAh), would make Onyx Studio 5 so much better. That shouldn’t be such a big problem, especially when you know that both Harman Kardon and JBL are part of the same company. Combining HK sound and design with JBL batteries (and waterproof materials) would be a winning combination. Also, if you connected two Onyx Studio 4’s together, you could choose party or stereo mode, something again, you can’t do when pairing two Studio 5s. And that is the most radical change. The Studio 5 is more bass-driven. I’m not going to go on about it again, because I’ve already raved about it, but if there’s any justification for upgrading from your old Studio 4 to a Studio 5, then this is it. The speaker you press and hold the play button on first will be the right speaker, and the second one will be the left speaker. And finally, a warning! Harman doesn’t recommend using the low-frequency mode as the Onyx Studio 5 is not designed to use low bass in normal operation.

So what is the difference between the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 5 and the Studio Onyx 6? Well, a lot less than between the Studio 5 and the Studio 4. Basically, the Studio 4 has legs, a built-in microphone and you can pair two speakers in stereo. The Studio 5 has neither legs nor a built-in mike and no stereo capability. Now for the part of our Onyx Studio review you have all been waiting for: the sound quality. This rings true for all speakers, because let’s face it, it’s all about the sound. The feature I liked most about the Onyx Studio 7 is the ability to connect two Bluetooth devices to the speaker simultaneously without them interrupting each other. It meant I didn’t have to pass my phone around to someone who wanted to put a song on, they could just connect themselves. Verdict The Onyx Studio 7 has a respectable 8 hours of battery life. This fluctuates based on the volume, however at around 50% volume I was able to confirm usage for close to 8 hours.

For the price, the Onyx Studio 5 is a decent speaker, but our audio professionals did mention that they wished there were other functions. Something else that our team didn’t necessarily like but says it’s quite common is that different color options command different price points. The 120mm woofer and 2x 25mm tweeters deliver good audio quality with strong bass capabilities and its 8-hour battery is decent. But there are many features I’d expect a portable speaker released in 2022 to have, that are surprisingly absent.Next, press and hold (for five seconds) the Bluetooth button on the second speaker until you hear a tone and the LED starts blinking white rapidly. There wasn’t a genre I tested on the Onyx Studio 7 that didn’t sound good. It’s not the loudest speaker I’ve heard, but it’s loud enough for a small gathering.

The worst thing about the sound is the fact that there is practically no stereo separation. Even if you connect two Onyx Studio 5 speakers together, you won’t get stereo experience since there is no stereo mode (only dual sound). The CompetitionHarman Kardon Onyx Studio 5 is a sophisticated portable Bluetooth speaker. It sounds even better than it looks. Compared to older Onyx Studio speakers, Studio 5 delivers much stronger and punchier bass. If you are a bass fan but you care about mids and highs, too and you don’t want them distorted or muffled, Onyx Studio 5 is a great choice. You should be aware that Studio 5 is not very rugged, it’s not waterproof, and it looks too precious for outdoor use. The Onyx Studio 5 has a massive 120mm woofer and a 25mm tweeter (and I’m pretty sure 2 passive radiators, though they don’t mention it in the specs), 50 Watts of total system power, and a frequency response of 50Hz – 20kHz. Okay, it’s more expensive, but even some cheaper Bluetooth speakers like the Boom 3 are waterproof to IPX7 or even IP67. I mean, how much extra effort would it have taken to make the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 5 water-resistant?
