The buttons are developed, and everything feels a lot more professional and grown-up – even if you do only get basic software. The Pioneer DDJ SB3 seems to respond to the issues of the previous generation, while still maintaining the high-quality elements of more expensive Pioneer models. For a beginner controller, the DDJ-SB3 is there to give you everything you need to inspire and motivate yourself into creating amazing new music.

The Jazzy Jeff button (pad scratch) functionality is one of the more unique bonuses for the DDJ SB3 version. This button will pad scratch any sound you have on Hot Cue 1 automatically when you hold one of the 8 performance pads. Finally, the TRS microphone input with dedicated volume control is found on the rear of the controller. It is worth noting that the microphones audio is not sent to the computer over USB, meaning you won’t hear it in recordings or streams. Before connecting the Pioneer DJ DDJ-SB3, ensure you have the latest version of Serato installed on your computer, available here .Performance pads are crucial when it comes to crafting your performance or learning new skills. They also help you to enhance your pre-existing skills and take them up to a new level. When we compared the two controllers, we found that DDJ-SB3 has larger performance pads than DDJ-400. One massive improvement between this version and the last is the introduction of new play and cue buttons. There’s a USB cable so you can connect your device to your laptop or PC, similar to what you got with the DDJ-SB2.

This particular model has been designed while keeping in view the designs of the predecessors and pinpointing what could make this new unit much more intriguing. It has a very distinct and intuitive interface that has all the buttons and features exactly where most users expect them to be. The Pioneer DDJ SB3 DJ controller performs and feels a lot like a shrunken version of a professional controller – like the Pioneer DJ DDJ-1000. DJ equipment used to be big and expensive. The rise of the digital era brought with it the introduction of DJ controllers. Some DJs may be initially off-put by the removal of a traditional cue button found above play/pause. However, in use, the smaller relocated button is quite a nice change. Forcing DJs to get used to working without relying upon the cue, a button that obviously isn’t available on a turntable set-up. The Pioneer DDJ-SB3 is a 2-channel DJ Controller solely designed for use with Serato DJ Lite (originally known as Serato DJ Intro) which features Pad Scratch, an industry first! On top of that, Pad scratch has been co-developed with world-renowned DJ Jazzy Jeff.Ultimately, the Pioneer DJ DDJ SB3 is a good step up from the DDJ-SB2. If you read our previous review on the last generation, you’ll know that the DDJ SB3 had some pretty big shoes to fill. The SB2 was an excellent beginner controller – and it still is. That said though, this design certainly won’t appeal to DJs wanting a more traditional club layout. With the DDJ-SB3 being discontinued upon the REV1’s release, this leaves DJs wanting an entry-level Pioneer DJ controller for Serato with no other option than this battle style layout. Something which might polarise a few potential buyers! I agree with him: It’s a great feature for a beginner controller. It would have been nice to have Slip mode to work with this scratch mode, but I guess you can’t have everything!
