Richard Hannay (c.1877) was born in Scotland. His father was Scottish and had German business partners. He was brought up to speak German pretty fluently. At the age of six he joined his father in South Africa. He became a mining engineer, spending three years prospecting for copper in German Damaraland and made small fortune in Bulawayo. Alt URL From making his professional debut at the London Pleasance Theatre, Rufus has now established himself as an actor with numerous credits on the stage, television, film and radio. Highlights of his career to date would make many aspiring actors green with envy.

You are the son of an army officer and were born in Germany. What was it like growing up as the son of a Major-General and travelling around the world when your father was re-posted? Not wishing to name drop, but you have appeared in films with Brad Pitt, Robert Redford, Dame Judi Dench, Daniel Craig, Michael Sheen and Dennis Quaid. What has been the highlight of your film career to date?Pettigrew, Terence, British film character actors: great names and memorable moments, Volume 1982, Part 2 (Rowman & Littlefield, 1982), ISBN 978-0-7153-8270-7 p. 28 Orson Welles portrayed Hannay in a radio play of The Thirty-Nine Steps in 1938, as did Glenn Ford in 1948 on Studio One, Herbert Marshall on Suspense in 1952. [3]

The biplane that chased Hannay was a 1916 Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a, [8] [15] and his apartment is shown as being in a 1920s-style Art Deco building. [16] Other minor mistakes included an anachronistic colour scheme for the British Railway carriages, and the appearance of a Philips 78 gramophone despite the company not being established until 1950. [16] The idle rich? That's kind of an old-fashioned topic these days, especially for me because I'm not rich and I've never been idle. I've been very busy all my life and I expect to be much busier quite soon....And I know what it is to feel lonely and helpless and to have the whole world against me, and those are things that no man or woman ought to feel. And I ask your candidate and all those who love their fellow men to set themselves resolutely to make this world a happier place to live in, a world where no nation plots against nation. Where no neighbor plots against neighbor, where there is no persecution or hunting down, where everybody gets a square deal and a sporting chance, and where people try to help and not to hinder. A world from which suspicions of cruelty and fear have been forever banished. That is the sort of world I want! Is that the sort of world you want?It is worth mentioning that Richard Hannay is an action-adventure series to the core, and Buchan clearly wrote these novels with male readers in mind. Richard Hannay definitely feels like a tamer version of James Bond.
