Four locals have failed to return home, no one can get in touch with them and with the weather closing in, DI Walker and his team are tasked with investigating. The hope is that they've holed up somewhere to get out of the weather but on arrival at the home of one of the men, they find it trashed with a picture of the four daubed with the words "murderers". Special thanks to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK Audio, Avon, and the editorial team for giving me the opportunity to review the ARC in audiobook format and to you, my reader, for taking the time to read this honest personal book review. For DCI Walker and his team, Christmas has come to be a much disliked time. Having solved a number of cases around this time over the past few years, they shouldn’t be surprised when yet another Christmas Eve is marred by a very odd case. With excellent characters, a perfect setting and an intriguing plot, The Night Before Christmas is one to be added to anyone's reading list for the upcoming festive season ... or for any time for that matter! The ending also feels a bit rushed, I wish it was a bit more fleshed out cause I would like to know more of what happen next.

I loved every paragraph, every sentence and every word of this masterpiece! I was totally hooked’ NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This novel is a marvellous read – the pacing is comfortable, it is well-plotted and the story is intriguing. This is book four in the series, and this time we see newly promoted DCI Walker and his very able team investigating four men who are missing after they headed off on a hike in heavy snow in the Lake District. In this chilling Christmas thriller set in the fells of Cumbria, the usual hunters become the hunted. On Christmas Eve, four trail hunters mysteriously vanish, prompting a frantic race against time to locate them before nightfall, when the plummeting temperatures could prove fatal. The search efforts yield a grim discovery: the first body is not merely frozen in the snow but brutally murdered, signaling that a sinister hunt has begun. As a snowstorm descends, the lives of three individuals hang precariously in the balance. The pressing question remains: can the killer be apprehended before the trail goes cold? This book is well crafted with clue after clue given like bread crumbs throughout the story which build the suspense until it reach the big climax at the end.I would like to extend my gratitude to Alex and NetGalley for granting me the opportunity to delve into "The Night before Christmas" ahead of its official release date. As the fourth installment in this series, I've thoroughly relished each prior book, even though this latest addition carries a slightly darker undertone. Traditionally, the 12 days of Christmas are celebrated as a season of joy and goodwill. However, James Walker's recent promotion to the position of DCI has failed to shake off the Christmas jinx that seems to linger over his team. This particular investigation promises to stretch their overtime budget as they toil through long hours during the holiday season. Although everything appeared to be fine on the surface, DI Walker and Jessica uncover resentments, secrets and sibling rivalry between the two sisters. Rachel was supposed to marry ten months earlier at the same hotel but was cruelly dumped a few weeks before the wedding. Her ex-fiancé, Douglas Hannigan, is a dubious character who had political ambitions until someone, possibly Rachel, exposed his drug habit. It have been several hours since they have been seen and severe bad weather is closing in. The Police pull out all the stops to find them, even the Mountain rescue are involved to rescue the four. with further investigation into them they find out that the four-take part in illegal hunting and they are presently on a hunt and after threats from anti hunt protesters and the vandalism of their nearby farm, James realise that they might be involved in the disappearance of them. Thanks to Alex and NetGalley for allowing me to read The Night before Christmas prior to the publication date.

I raced through it this weekend. Such a smart twisty, warped, credible, brilliantly plotted and compelling. Deserves to be such a hit.’ Reader Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Four friends fail to return home after a trail hike in the Lake District on Christmas Eve. As the weather closes in, DCI James Walker and his team work with the Mountain Rescue teams to find them. It’s a race against time to trace the men before harsh winter weather arrives.
